Welcome to Al-Iraqia University’s Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator Office. Our mission is to drive the internationalization of higher education by fostering academic exchange, global networking, and strategic partnerships with European institutions. We empower our students and staff to expand their horizons through world-class mobility programs.
Erasmus+ is the European Union's program to support education, training, youth, and sport. It provides opportunities for millions of participants to study, train, and gain experience abroad. Al-Iraqia University participates actively in the program to enhance institutional capacity and academic quality
KA171 funds the mobility of students and staff between EU Member States and third countries not associated with the program (such as Iraq).
o Student Mobility: 3 to 12 months for study or traineeship.
o Staff Mobility: 5 days to 2 months for teaching or training.
o Grants: Monthly stipends for students and daily allowances for staff, plus travel distance support.
Key Action 171 (KA171) supports the international mobility of students and higher education staff between EU Member States/associated countries and non-associated third countries (such as Iraq). This framework allows Al-Iraqia University to build sustainable academic bridges with European and regional program countries to foster intercultural exchange and enhance global educational standards.
Our Active Partnership: Al-Iraqia University & Gaziantep University (Turkey) Al-Iraqia University is proud to announce its active Erasmus+ KA171 Inter-Institutional Agreement with Gaziantep University (Gaziantep Üniversitesi) in Turkey. This strategic partnership opens exclusive, fully funded mobility pathways for our academic community across mutually agreed disciplines, including Engineering, Islamic Studies, Arts and Humanities, and Administrative Sciences.
Student Exchange Framework (Al-Iraqia ⇄ Gaziantep):
• Outgoing Students (From Al-Iraqia to Gaziantep): Selected students from Al-Iraqia University have the opportunity to spend a fully funded academic semester (3 to 5 months) studying at Gaziantep University. Beneficiaries are exempted from paying tuition fees at the host institution and will receive a monthly EU stipend alongside a travel distance grant.
• Incoming Students (From Gaziantep to Al-Iraqia): Within this agreement, Al-Iraqia University warmly welcomes exchange students from Gaziantep University to experience our academic programs, research facilities, and rich cultural heritage in Baghdad
• ECTS & Credit Recognition: To ensure seamless academic progression, all credits and courses successfully completed by exchange students at Gaziantep University will be fully and automatically recognized and transferred to their official academic records at Al-Iraqia University, utilizing the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
To initiate a mobility flow, an Inter-Institutional Agreement (IIA) must be signed between Al-Iraqia University and the European partner university. Download our standard Erasmus+ KA171 agreement template below
Below is the list of our active Erasmus+ European partners. Students and staff can apply for mobility only to the universities listed under their respective faculties
o Eligibility: Active students with a minimum GPA of 2.50/4.00 (or equivalent) and proof of English language proficiency.
o Selection Criteria: 50% Academic GPA + 50% Language Exam Score.
o Application Steps: 1. Check partner slots. 2. Fill out the online application. 3. Upload required documents (Transcript & Language Certificate). 4. Attend the interview.

Erasmus+ aims to promote equity and inclusion. Students and staff with fewer opportunities, including those with physical, mental, or health-related conditions, are entitled to extra financial support to cover additional costs incurred during their mobility.
Participants who choose a sustainable means of transport (such as train, bus, or carpooling) for the main part of the travel are eligible for a "Green Travel" top-up grant and up to 4 days of additional travel days.
